Advanced designing with ECI

Sustainable design choices substantiated by ECI

Suitable for:

Client Client
Contractor Contractor
Producer Producer

Description

In the design phase, the most important choices for the environmental impact of a project are made. Using the MKI as a broad indicator of sustainability and circularity, you will learn how environmental impact can be included early and substantiated in design considerations.

This training will show you how ECI is applied when comparing and optimizing design and product variants, without having to make your own ECI calculations. On the basis of recognizable practical examples and the tool ontwerpvariant.nl, you will get to work yourself in understanding and interpreting environmental impact.

Upon completion, you will be able to understand, compare and apply ECI results in design choices. For complex projects, external support remains desirable, but you will be able to use the results directly and effectively in practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand why applying ECI early in the design phase has the greatest impact on sustainable project goals.
  • Gain insight into how to reduce the environmental impact of a traditional design.
  • Be able to prepare and interpret an ECI gravity analysis on their own.
  • Be able to compare design variants on ECI and other relevant criteria within a multi-criteria analysis.
  • Be able to capture results of design variants for reporting and monitoring.
  • Be able to name measures that affect and reduce both environmental and economic costs.

Practical information

  • Duration: half-day
  • Time: Morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Afternoon from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: Wijchen
  • Number of participants: up to 10 participants
  • Includes: Handouts, figures

Because of the trainer’s experience, each question can be immediately provided with a response, figure and even practical example. We have conducted a design variants study for almost every possible situation before and can go into this in depth without mentioning the organization or client name.

The power of this training

Early steering for impact

Learn how ECI in the design phase makes a difference for CO₂ reduction and circularity.

Compare design variants substantiated

Compare and optimize design and product variants with ECI and multi-criteria analyses.

Practical application in projects

Work with recognizable examples and tools to apply ECI results directly to design choices.

The learning process in steps

01

Prepare

You will receive a short pre-read on ECI and design so that you start with the right context.

02

Understanding ECI design

We cover how ECI is used to understand environmental impact in design choices.

03

Apply and compare

You will work on your own to compare and optimize design variants with ECI.

04

Commit and follow through

You will learn how results are captured for decision-making and monitoring in projects.
