Basic + Advanced LCA ECI

More depth in LCA and ECI, for application in practice

Suitable for:

Client Client
Contractor Contractor
Producer Producer

Description

We hear, see and experience all the current developments around LCA and ECI in our daily work and enjoy sharing this knowledge in this training.

In practical case studies and in-depth discussions, all knowledge, expertise and experience will be covered, so that sustainability can be discussed objectively and quantitatively – internally and externally – and participants will be given tools to apply this concretely in their own practice.

A logical combination of basic understanding as well as depth on how ECI is concretely applied in projects and decision making.

Day 1 is almost identical to the basic training, but because there is a second day, there is more room to reflect on questions and clarification.

Day 2 starts with a short review and room for new questions and insights gained by participants in the meantime. The second day offers room for deepening, questions and discussion to translate theory into practice. Participants will gain insight into how ECI is actually becoming part of design and procurement processes, learn to deal with delivery, burden of proof and discussions in projects, and explore how monitoring and market forces influence the application of ECI. This creates not only an understanding, but also a concrete action perspective for daily practice.

Learning Objectives

Half-day 1

  • Starting to understand, comprehend and speak a little of the “language” of LCA and ECI.
  • Understanding why focusing only on CO₂ or circularity is not enough (anymore).
  • Why applying ECI helps achieve sustainable goals.
  • Basic understanding of LCA life stages, Module D and environmental impact categories(set 1 & set 2).
  • Concepts such as LCA, (un)tested environmental statement, ECI, EPD, NMD and many more.
  • The connection between LCA/ECI with CO₂, circularity, energy, zero-emission building.

Half-day 2

  • How MKI is integrated into design and procurement processes.
  • Exploring, interpreting and influencing design alternatives using MK calculations.
  • Review of reference, tender and As-Built calculations as well as supporting evidence.
  • Recognize what data are needed for monitoring, how and when they should be collected, and why uniformity is crucial in this regard.
  • Gain insight into market behavior: how contractors and manufacturers respond to ECI requests and what economic incentives this creates.
  • In depth on ‘ECI Guiding’ Dutch legislation.
  • What tools, public and private are available and their strengths and weaknesses.

Practical information

  • Duration: 2 half-days
  • Time: Walk-in 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. start with lunch – 4:30 p.m. end

Incompany
The training Basic + Advanced LCA ECI is usually delivered in-company, at the client’s location. We tailor the planning to the moment it is most relevant to the organization.

Open enrollment

We organize this training several times a year as open enrollment. Individual participants or small teams can attend. The group consists of a mix of public and private parties, ensuring valuable exchange and recognizable practice discussions.

The scheduled dates for open enrollment are:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 10 and Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026
  • Tuesday, March 24 and Thursday, March 26, 2026 (optional)
  • Tuesday, May 19 and Thursday, May 21, 2026 (optional)

After this training, the main concepts and terms around LCA and ECI are clear. In the in-depth sections, there is room to apply ECI in a practical way, for example in design optimization, tendering and monitoring projects. Participants get a clear picture of how ECI can be used within their own projects and what steps are involved. For initial application, guidance in a project remains recommended.
