1. Initial review
The supplied file is methodically reviewed against the relevant standards. We record our findings in a review journal and provide feedback with concrete action points.
2. Follow-up review rounds
After comments are processed, we conduct another round of review. On average, two rounds of corrections are required to arrive at a final version.
3. Preparation of verification statement
When all requirements are met and there are no outstanding comments, the verification is completed and you will receive the verification statement.
4. Control before publication
When inclusion in the NMD or publication of EPDs is contemplated, we check the associated environmental statements for accuracy and release them for publication.

Verification is mandatory when an LCA is used for formal purposes, such as inclusion in the NMD, publication of an SPD, or use in tenders where verification is required. In other situations, verification may be desired to increase the reliability and acceptance of the results.
A verification involves formal testing of the study against applicable standards and program rules, resulting in a verification statement. A critical review is a substantive quality check without a formal statement, such as for internal assurance or preparation for publication.
The overall turnaround time depends on several factors, including the completeness of the file, the number of review rounds and to what extent comments are adequately addressed. Waiting for information from suppliers can also affect the turnaround time.
In most cases, we can perform the initial review within three weeks of receiving the file. Subsequent review rounds we typically perform within approximately one week, depending on complexity, number of open comments and timeliness of delivery.

No – during a verification, we remain completely independent of the modeling. However, we do provide substantiated and actionable feedback so that the LCA preparer can make the required adjustments.
If it turns out that the study cannot be made verification-ready, EcoReview can – in consultation – take over the further elaboration of the content of the LCA. In that case, the final verification is carried out by another, independent verifier.
Yes, our reviewers are active within multiple program and database contexts (including NMD, MRPI and IGBC). When in doubt, we review together whether the file can be verified within the intended program.
An LCA is rarely sufficient in one go. On average, two rounds of corrections are required. Our findings are recorded in a review journal with concrete action points. After these are processed, a new review round follows. Only when all comments have been processed is the verification statement issued.
The costs depend, among other things, on the number of product variants, production locations, the software used and the overall complexity of the file. Based on the scope, we provide a quote in advance.
Yes, we verify project-specific LCAs and ECI calculations for construction and infrastructure projects, in accordance with relevant guidelines and procurement requirements.
Substantive guidance or modeling would be at the expense of our independence and mean that we can no longer perform the verification. If desired, however, we can perform a pre-review to identify bottlenecks early and increase the likelihood of a smooth verification.
If during the pre-review it appears that it is not feasible for the LCA preparer to get the study verification-ready, EcoReview can – in consultation – take over the further elaboration of the LCA. In that case, the final verification is performed by another, independent verifier.
